Peace

Peace is a rather abstract term ain’t it?  How many can actually define “peace” to a much relevant example?

To quote Wikipedia “Peace is a state of harmony characterized by the lack of violence, conflict behaviors and the freedom from fear of violence. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility”, peace also “suggests the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.”

To a certain extent, yeah, all the above are true and examples are acknowledge, but how many of us actually know peace in our short life? Peace can be achieved from a wide scale even globally or as localized as the mental state of mind of one individual. No matter the scale of relevance the word is used on, without a doubt any sane individual would want to achieve it, live in and through it. So again, how many people have actually experienced “peace”.

In Galatians 5:22-23 Version (NIV) : 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. As understanding goes, peace is rather high on the ladder of fruits, which should indicate its prudence and benefit of attainment. Term “peace and tranquility” can often be related or even quoted from scriptures or scores from religion worldwide. So religious or atheist why is peace so hard to be achieved?

Interaction between individual will sometimes results in conflict, even between the best of friends, spouses and family members. Habitual pattern and behavioral practice which varies between people will always bring about conflict. However, in terms of individual scale, self-grand profit, morality conflicts decisions making also cuts peace from one’s mind. Is this yet another self-imposed irony human love to indulge in, wanting something but practicing the opposite?

In death, people will find eternal peace, at least physically anyway. Spiritually is a whole other story. The deceased are forever separated from the pain and conflict forever. Being alive, the closet peace one might get is probably during our sleep and even then dreams and nightmares might occur. Meditation in form of exercise such as yoga or spiritual connection is common ways of attaining peace. Then again how long does the effects last or how many people actually does that?

Notice that it is “piece” of mind, not PEACE?
