Toilet

Today, my parents took me to a western restaurant to celebrate me passing driving, which I did on Tuesday (7th November 2006). In the restaurant, there was a group of women, 2 Malaysian and 2 British. They were celebrating A’s birthday (not sure with their names though). They were chatting and eating. Then A had to the use the toilet. She went and came back within 15 seconds and said “I don’t know how to use the toilet.”

Apparently, there are no more squatting toilets anymore where she came from. She came back to her table and started to talk about toilet for about 10, minutes (which I waited for my food to be served). Then, she said something interesting “I really got to use the toilet, any tips?” The 2 Malaysians begin to “teach” her how to squat and etc. After all that, the other British lady said she’ll go first to try it out, if she can do it, A can. She went in, came out, normal. Laughing, she told A to go in. A went in, quite long though.

About 3 minutes later, she came out, blushed red. She said she had to take of her pants to pee, to avoid her pants getting wet. Her friends, my parents, the restaurant owner and I laughed. Her friends continue their teasing and laughing on that topic for quite a while before paying for the food. She left the restaurant saying this was a good topic to write about (must be dairy or blog or something) and that was an interesting birthday.

Haiz ~ so much fuzz just from using the toilet, a perfect example that there’s a huge difference between eastern and western countries. Happy birthday to A though. Haha ~

Praying for luck

Today I went to 2 different temples to pray: “Guan-yin” temple and some “milk” temple. I’m not sure the temple’s name or any customs of these temples, but my friends seems to think that praying in these temples is a sign of good luck and might help us in our examination. Although I’m a Chinese, I don’t really like nor believe in much of it. I don’t believe in the existence of Gods and Buddha (because of something in the pass), but why not go along, it won’t hurt having more luck than I already have.

We went to this temple near my ex-home. The strange thing is, all my years living there I know nothing about this temple. To me, it was always there. Today I went in the first time. Surprising to see a lot of friends from tuition center and school arriving almost the same time, my only thought was “this could be the real deal, could.” I tied these red string thingies on both my wrists, place several joss-sticks, listen to prayers, poured oil and place milk before leaving that temple and continue to the next temple.

The Guan-yin temple, one I heard of a lot from my parents and being here several times in 17 years time, is not really a mystery. Today’s also the 15th day of the month in the lunar calendar, which is the main reason the temple is packed with people. They were all around the temple, presenting their joss-sticks, “papers” and etc. we went in to pray and manage to catch a glimpse of a lion dance before leaving the temple. The next destination was “prangin’ mall”.

Although I don’t believe in Gods and Buddha, my family and friends (some) does, and most of them really hope I do. For now, I might believe in it, at least until the exam’s over. As for everyone else sitting for the spm examination, I wish you all luck and the best.

Graduation

Today is my graduation day in chung ling high school ( penang, malaysia). The ceremony was boring, as expected: vip speeches, prize giving, school band playing and singing. To me, this ceremony can be skipped and avoided to begin with, nothing particular. Although, it’s nice seeing everyone in my year gathering one last time (since everyone have been skipping school recently), this gave me the chance to take last photos of everyone of my friends.

There’s a whole 2 hours before we enter the school hall, which is a perfect time to enjoy ourselves (a royal pain in the a** exam is coming) while making memory snaps of our friends. At 7.30 am, everyone is in school going around taking photos and talking (some gambling while others do what they usually do).i manage to take pictures of my dear friends (I hope I didn’t left anyone out. Sorry if I did), fellow primary schoolmates, buddies and good friends. I took a final tour around the school taking picture with some classmates and good friends before entering the hall.

We waiting long~ ~ for the arrival of the vip( lame), listen to them babble about nothing important while sitting there empty stomach. After some speech from fellow graduates, it’s prize giving time( congratulations to whei chuern, chiew sern and huan chien). After that was time for singing (graduation song and some others, which I missed cause I went to the wash room). Then, the day was over. Everyone was so hungry; we went our separate ways after some goodbyes.

The day before(2nd November 2006), I organized a party for our teachers( in which we only invited some that we really learnt something from). That party went on the whole day. Candy and junk food started in the morning (as soon as they arrived). The game of the day played itself off early too – casino-nation. We received our graduation magazine yesterday and marked the begin of “the amazing race” for signatures. There’s student (form 5) every corner of the school, wanting signature from teachers and friends. I was so caught up that I nearly forgot about calling the delivery. Thanks to come assistance, everything was on track, except the money problem (I had to pay for the tips).

Today, I finally open the graduation magazine to go through it carefully. Disappointed by the design of the magazine (color and they didn’t publish my poem, though I have to admit is weak compared to those that were publish), I was quite pleased with the fruit the committee did (a big shout-out to the committee “THANKS”). I found out what my class wrote about me (translating): he (which is me) talks a lot, but he really is a nice guy. He is a softie, while saying no to your face, he is actually helping you in the back. He is considered a “worthy” friend. EMBARRASSING but ok, I’ll accept it (what to do?).

Maybe i really am a softie. I don’t like my school (too much rules to actually work, teachers who sit, shit, spit more than speak) but I cherish each and everyone of my friends, some help me in my studies, some in activities, some in emotions while others help by giving advice. The thought of not seeing them (some) actually hurts. Next year, I might not see some of them anymore, some I might spend another few years with (not complaining). I’m sadden by the thought but there’s nothing much I can really do. So to the lot of you, good luck, all the best, keep in touch and best wishes.
