Feeling and knowing
These days most people put everything they know and experienced into words. Novels, journals, memoirs, blogs, posts, tweets, biographies, even dictionaries are full with people’s understanding of things, placed into words for others to read. Most forms are more public than others but still present the same things: they are heart-felt related feelings translated for future reference.
For every emotion or situation one might be going through, there’s a really high chance someone has been there before. And based on the direction the industry is going, there’s a high chance someone has made it into a novel, movie, pilot, episode or award even. Sometimes scenes from a movie or chapter from a story are all too familiar, nostalgic or devaju like even.
It is good to sometimes find these scenes or story out of the blue and know we are not the only ones facing these problems. Though some elements are out of sort and others written to be too extreme or dramatic, fact is that the emotional connection one might siphon from it is genuine enough to relate. These gives people some sense of belonging and relevance.
Extensive and prolong exposure to same plot in the same genre especially love has really left a dent in the mental state of youth and teenagers. Forbidden love, love triangles, love-hates scenarios, hookups-splitting-hookup-again, promiscuity and etc are becoming the new “romantic”. Cinema regulars and couch potatoes have been found describing their ideal definition of love to be bitten by a vampire or princess like fantasies…… far from reality ain’t it?
Additionally, astoundingly early exposure to these genres has really expedited the maturity of youth these days. Public place, mall, schools even are now common grounds to catch a glimpse of premature-adolescence version of puppy love with the lack of shame, but just enough heat and flame. While they lack the hormones of puberty to allow for any unwanted complications, they are substituting with idolizing and imagination from movies and novels to the warmth sting of love.
While lacking common sense of the world and understanding of options, can what adolescence experience at the young age be real love of reality-tv love? If love a concept of feeling or knowing?
